Gangster Octopus is a film crew based out of Upstate NY. In 2017 Gangster Octopus released its first short film The Kingsbury Nightmare at the Heights Theater in Elmira, NY. Shortly after Gangster Octopus began releasing short episodes of their comedy No Soliciting. No Soliciting: Adventures in Salesville (The Movie) was released at the Heights Theater in 2019. These theatrical releases grew into film festival events that included other local entries such as Joseph Davis's The Jimi Hendrix Rockumentary.
In October of 2022 Gangster Octopus held the Inaugural Wicked Realm Film Festival at The L in Horseheads, NY. This event played 5 short Gangster Octopus originals, Three of Swords, No Soliciting: Zombies, Jelly Beans, The First to Three, & Going Out.
Gangster Octopus returns to the L in October of 2023 with a fresh set of Horror/Sci-Fi films. 4 new Gangster Octopus originals debuted The Ugly Sweater, Foredoomed, No Soliciting: Aliens, & The Red Light. In addition, this years Wicked Realm featured outside submissions from around the world including Canada, Iran, and London. Our local friends at 8th House studios also debuted their film Unknown.
2024 proved to be a big year for Gangster Octopus and the Wicked Realm Film Festival. The event moved to a new venue: Empire Sports of the Southern Tier. Three new Gangster Octopus originals debuted, Live, Laugh, Love, Moonridge Manor, and Villain, along with entries submitted from around the world. New this year, each night had its own theme. Red Carpet Night featured local and NY state entries. Intergalactic Night featured mostly Sci-Fi films. Blood, Guts, Gore showcased violent horror. And Night of the Gangster Octopus screened all three of the new Gangster Octopus originals.
